FAQ: Vignerons & Viticulture
How does Microtek Organics affect brix levels?
Healthier soil biology and more even vine nutrition through ripening are commonly linked to more consistent sugar accumulation. We don't publish blanket brix figures since results vary by site, season and variety — talk to us about setting up a trial block against your own baseline if you want to measure it directly.
When should I apply relative to flowering, veraison and harvest?
Product pending, our Amino Mate rate recommends vines and orchards apply at 3–5L/Ha during growing and pre-flowering. We also have a vineyard-specific Enrichment Program with a full-season timing plan. As a general rule, ease off nitrogen-focused products approaching veraison and stop well before harvest — confirm exact cut-off with us for your variety and region.
Is it compatible with copper and sulfur sprays?
Yes — formulated to combine easily with copper and sulfur, which are standard in most vineyard spray programs.
Will using your products affect my organic or biodynamic certification?
Our products are produced via vermiculture and carry certified organic / allowed-input status — check the current certification logo on your product and confirm with your certifying body that it fits your program, since rules vary by certifier and region.
How does it support vine health beyond just nutrition?
The castings-derived liquid carries a high concentration of beneficial bacteria and fungi that build soil structure, improve nutrient cycling and reduce infection points for soil-borne disease — so the benefit isn't just feeding the vine, it's rebuilding the soil web the vine relies on long-term.
Can it be applied through dripper or fertigation systems?
Yes — designed to work through foliar spray, boom spray and dripper/fertigation systems. Amino Mate is filtered to 120 mesh for clean flow through drip lines.
What's the recommended dilution rate for vines?
As a guide, Amino Mate is used at 3–5L/Ha for vines and orchards. Other products have their own vine rates between 5-8L/Ha — check the specific product page or ask for the current Vineyard Enrichment Program guide.
Can it help vines recover from frost, heat stress or drought?
Growers use the range to support recovery after stress events, since rebuilding microbial activity and nutrient availability helps the vine regain balance faster. Timing and rate may need adjusting post-event — contact us for specific advice.
Will it affect the flavour or quality of the wine?
The aim is healthier vines and more consistent ripening, which growers generally associate with better fruit quality — but wine outcome depends on far more than soil inputs, so trial it on a block and assess fruit at harvest.
How close to harvest can I keep applying?
We recommend stopping nitrogen-focused applications well ahead of harvest — exact cut-off depends on the product and your picking date. Talk to our team or check the Vineyard Enrichment Program for a season timing plan.
Can it help with soil compaction in the inter-row?
Yes — building soil microbial life and organic matter over time helps improve structure and reduce compaction, particularly in inter-row areas subject to vehicle traffic.
Is there a vineyard-specific program I can follow?
Yes — our Vineyard Enrichment Program is a downloadable guide mapping products and timing across a full growing season. Ask our team for the current version.
Does it help young vines establish faster?
Yes — at planting and during establishment, more frequent light applications help young vines settle in and build root systems faster.
Can I run this alongside my existing vineyard nutrition program rather than replacing it?
Yes — most vignerons add it into an existing program. It's formulated to combine with most existing inputs, so it's usually a case of integrating at the right timing rather than starting from scratch.
How does this compare to synthetic vineyard fertiliser for soil biology?
Synthetic fertiliser feeds the vine but does little to build microbial populations in the soil. Our vermiculture-derived products specifically rebuild bacteria and fungi populations, which is the main point of difference if soil biology and long-term soil health are a priority for your block.
Does it suit both irrigated and dry-grown vineyards?
Yes — application method (foliar/dripper) can be matched to your irrigation setup, and dry-grown blocks can use foliar or boom spray instead of fertigation.
Can it be used alongside cover cropping in the mid-row?
Yes — cover crops add organic matter and our liquid products help feed the microbial activity that breaks that organic matter down into available nutrients. The two approaches work well together.
